Aquarius, the sign of the water bearer, is often confused with being a water sign. Aquarius is an air sign, the water bearer being a symbol of the waters of knowledge (air) being poured over and shared with humanity.
The new super moon at the 1st degree of Aquarius does have the emotional intensity usually associated with water, due to the proximity of Pluto at almost the last degree of the previous sign Capricorn. This captures the dramatic transitional energy symbolised by this new moon. The dying stages of old, outdated and unsustainable systems and structures in governments, business, global institutions (Capricorn) being challenged by fresh, innovative, collective decision making and direction (Aquarius). Out with the old and in with the new!
Pluto transforms, literally meaning changing form. One form has to die so that another can be born. Personally we may be faced with final stages of emotional transformation, releasing remnants and fragments of long held pain and trauma. The letting go stage of any process does not come without grief and loss, and the three day dark new moon period allows us to penetrate the depths of letting go so that something new and wonderful can emerge.
Uranus, modern ruler of Aquarius, moves direct on 23 January, one day after the new moon. All of the planets will then be moving direct indicating fast forward movement and momentum towards the new.
Aquarius symbolises brotherhood, sisterhood, humanity, freedom, invention, independence, human rights, progressive idealism and vision. At this new moon, as we let go of our old shells and embrace transformation, ask yourself “What will be my unique and creative contribution to a new vision for humanity and for myself?”
