This month’s full moon in Capricorn is the closest Supermoon of the year, where the Moon appears larger than at any other time during the year. This full moon highlights the Cancer Capricorn axis. The Sun is in Cancer conjunct Ceres Goddess of agriculture and the grain. Both Cancer and Ceres symbolise nurture, nourishment, family, caring, protection and reverence of nature. Ceres also highlights grief and loss.
Neptune trines Sun Ceres, bringing a spiritual and creative quality, while Eris Goddess of Strife and Discord squares Ceres.
The Moon is in earthy Capricorn, associated with practical tangible results and achievements but also representing Cornucopia, an ancient symbol of food and abundance. The image of the Cornucopia or The Horn of Plenty represents reaping the rewards of hard work and gaining prosperity.
Thus the theme of grain and feeding runs across this axis. This could point to food disruptions with wheat production being affected by the war in Ukraine, food riots as in Sri Lanka or some generosity and caring creative energy being poured into how we treat and distribute food and how we nurture the planet and it’s in habitants.
Pluto conjuncts the Moon, intensifying emotions and allowing to access deep wells of powerful emotional energy. Pluto Moon brings emotional transformation and empowerment which can involve a cathartic letting go, echoing Ceres’ themes of grief and loss.
This full moon is within one degree of the Saturn Pluto conjunction on 12 January 2020 which heralded the start of the Covid pandemic and its consequences. Ceres was also exactly conjunct Saturn and Pluto on this day. This full moon will activate this degree and highlight themes of centralised governmental control or collapse, body sovereignty, freedom of the people, food and resource availability and distribution and ultimately the transformation of the structures of our society. The Cornucopia brings us hope of a more caring, nurturing and prosperous world for all.
